How to Apply

Welcome to the first step on your H-2A (USA Temporary Agricultural Visa) journey.

This section will explain the various ways you can apply for the H-2A visa and how you can also work in the Agricultural industry in the United States of America.

Ways to find farm work in the United States of America

  1. Apply for farm work through an Agent in South Africa
  2. Work advertised on the various Facebook pages
  3. Through a friend that recommended you to his employer

1. Through an Agent

The first step is to contact all the agents in South Africa. These agents will provide you with an application form or even a link to their website, where you can complete an online profile.

After you have submitted your profile or your application form, the agent will publish your application to his/her various farmers.

The farmer/employer will then go through the application forms he/she has received to find candidates with the right skills, experience and qualifications for the farm, co-op or custom harvesting company.

You will then be contacted by the agent to notify you if a employer is interested in hiring you.

A Whatsapp or Telegram interview will be scheduled where the employer will ask you questions about your skills and experience. This is also the time the employer talks to you about his farm or company.

It is also important that you ask any questions you might have.

Questions you can ask:

  • What is the hourly wage
  • What are the living arrangements
  • How far is the house/living quarters from the main workshop
  • Is there washing facilities available like a washing machine and tumble dryer
  • How many South Africans work on the farm/at the company
  • Will a vehicle be available to do grocery shopping
  • What kind of work will I be doing on the farm/at the company

PLEASE NOTE: Having an interview with a potential employer does not guarantee that you are hired. The employer still need to make a decision if he/she wants to hire you.

Should you feel comfortable to work for the employer AND he feels comfortable to hire you, he will let you know.

H2A Application Process Begins

After the agent in South Africa has received all the relevant documents from the employer, he/she will contact you with more information.
